The question is, how do you choose the right website builder for creating your website? That’s where we come in! We have compiled a list of some of the best website builders out there to help you pick the one that is perfect for you.

WordPress

WordPress is the most famous website builder available. Over 35% of the websites on the internet are built using WordPress. WordPress is a self-hosted website building platform with powerful features. The key reason behind its popularity is its scalability and ease of use. WordPress offers users complete control over their websites and it is easy to upgrade your website anytime using WordPress.

Pros

There are no restrictions when it comes to building a website using WordPress. Whether it’s an e-commerce website or a membership site, you can easily build it using WordPress. One of the impressive things about WordPress is the thousands of pre-made themes that are available. You can explore new designs and find free and premium WordPress themes to get started with your new website.

WordPress also has easy-to-use drag-and-drop page builders, like Elementor, that will help you create a website within minutes. From a developer’s point of view, it is extremely easy to customize a website using WordPress. There are thousands of plugins that will help you extend the functionality of your website. As a content management system, WordPress covers businesses, bloggers, web developers, designers, freelancers and more.

Cons

As a new user, it can be difficult to adjust to all the things you can do in WordPress. However, there are many resources available out there to help you learn WordPress and build your site in no time. You will also have to take care of the security of your WordPress website, backups, and latest software updates. WordPress, itself, is a free platform, however you may have to invest in premium products including themes and plugins for enhanced functionality.

Weebly

Weebly is an easy-to-use website builder with lots of outstanding features to help you create a stunning website within minutes. It includes various pre-made designs that you can use to create a website with no coding knowledge. Weebly has a user-friendly page builder that will help you manage page layouts and elements with ease.

Pros

Weebly has built-in support for e-commerce so you can create an online store with ease and start selling your products. If you are looking for a DIY website builder for beginners, then Weebly is worth considering.

Weebly is a fully hosted platform, which means you don’t have to worry about managing software updates and backups. When you join Weebly, you will find various website designs that you can use to create stunning pages. Weebly’s easy to use live page editor will help you create pages in no time.

There are various built-in features that you can use including sliders, photo galleries, contact forms, and much more. These are simple drag-and-drop type items so getting them setup is very simple. All you really need to bring to Weebly are the photos and text you want for your site and your off and running.

Cons

They limit you on the customizations you can make to your Weebly website as it is a fully hosted platform. You can’t add new functionality to Weebly beyond what they offer on the site, so no extended plugins like WordPress offers. This could be a pro though if you are looking for simplicity.

Although Weebly has a “Free Plan” it will display ads on your site and you will not be able to use your own domain name. For any real business website you will need to purchase one of the available plans. For businesses we would recommend the Professional or Performance plan as the personal plan contains ads as well and lacks many features needed for a business site.

Wix

Wix.com is one of the most popular fully hosted website builders available. It provides easy-to-use software so you can build a website within minutes. Being fully hosted means it is all cloud based so there is no software that you need to install and no server you will have to manage.

It also offers more flexibility than some other fully hosted website builders by allowing more customization via their Corvid Open Dev Platform.

Pros

Wix offers various free and paid apps that you can use to increase the functionality of your website. You can add additional features and functionalities using these apps. These apps are created by Wix and third-party developers and that means there’s always room to expand the functionality of your website.

There are hundreds of templates to choose from and Wix also allows you to build your own from scratch if design is your thing.Edit the templates is simple using their drag-and-drop website builder.

While Wix offers a free plan, it limits the storage and bandwidth for your website. This is a good place to start though if you wish to test their website builder, then if you like it you can always upgrade. If you want to use your own domain name, you will have to upgrade to a premium plan. All the paid plans also come with a free domain name for a year.

Cons

The free plan will display Wix branded ads on your website. If you wish to remove those ads, you will have to purchase one of the available plans. The “Website” plans they offer have a limited amount of storage, capping out at 20gb. If you want to upload videos to your site you are limited by the number of videos you can upload (though you can always embed videos hosted on other sites for free).

If you start getting any substantial amount of traffic the lowest price plan, the “Combo” plan, might not provide enough bandwidth as it is limited to 2GB.

Jimdo

Jimdo powers over 25 million websites and is another excellent option for you if you want to create a website within a few minutes. If you have a small business, you can build a simple website or an ecommerce website. It does not require any coding knowledge and has a very simple page builder that will help you create a website in no time.

Pros

Jimdo currently has some impressive deals to get started (as low as $3/month at the time of writing) and even without the current deals they offer some of the lowest prices to start an Ad-Free website.

With Jimdo, you will have an option to build a website with no coding required or, if you like more control, they also have a more advanced editor. It has all the features you need to get started with your small business website. Jimdo has an intuitive modular system that helps you design and edit your website with easy-to-use blocks.

Jimdo also provides a decent plan for e-commerce websites. If you are starting your online store, then it has all the features you need to get started. They have an easy order management system along with different payment methods you can incorporate on your site.

One of the great things about Jimdo is their personalized support. You can always reach out to the experts and discuss your concerns about your website. Whether you are creating a portfolio or an online store, you will be able to get the help you need.

They have multiple designs available for every industry and you can access a free photo library to improve the visual appearance of your website.

Cons

They have a free plan, however you can only create a 5 page website with very limited bandwidth and storage. Only paid plans contain free domains.

Features are very limited and if you are a web developer, you won’t be able to do much with your website. The templates they provide aren’t the greatest and editing isn’t as flexible as some other website builders in this list.

Strikingly

If you don’t have any design or development skills, then Strikingly could be the right platform for you to build your website. It helps you create a stunning website in no time. Whether you want to start a simple blog or want to create a portfolio website, you can do so with Strikingly website builder.

Pros

Strikingly can be an excellent solution for small business owners. It has an easy-to-use website builder and you can create layouts to suit your needs. Strikingly provides some amazing templates from different industries and you can use them to design your own website in a few minutes.

It also provides a built-in e-commerce solution. You can easily manage products, orders, memberships, shipping, and much more. You can connect to different payment gateways including Stripe and PayPal.

It is also an excellent solution for creating membership websites. They offer a premium level of support to all of their customers.

It’s a fully hosted platform so you don’t have to worry about software updates, backups, and hosting. All of their plans come with a 14-day free trial.

Cons

There are various limitations in all of their plans and if you are moving towards expanding your online business, then it can be difficult to do with Strikingly. You have to get a yearly plan for a free domain name, and domain registration through them costs much more than other domain registrars.

Their free plan is extremely limited and offers only 1 product per site. With their VIP plan, you can create 5 pro sites. However, they offer only 10GB storage for each site. Their cheapest plan, the “Limited” plan, will still display the Strikingly branding. This makes removing ads with Strikingly much more costly than other website builders.

WebNode

WebNode is another easy-to-use website builder, with over 40 million users, that will allow you to create a stunning website within a few minutes. With WebNode, you can create an online store quickly and start selling your products. It can be a perfect option for small and local businesses.

Pros

They have a very simple interface for creating an online store, business website or blog. There are various free templates that you can use to design your website. WebNode offers designs that are responsive and easy to layout.

They have a block editor style page builder that will help you create beautiful layouts for your website. You don’t need code knowledge to get started with your website. They have beautiful templates for almost every niche including portfolio, wedding, food, e-commerce, and businesses.

Cons

WebNode also has limitations in every plan. You only get 5GB of storage in their Professional plan. All plans lower than the Professional plan have limited bandwidth and the Mini and Limited plans still show ads.

You have limited flexibility in template design, you cannot change HTML or CSS in templates. If you later decide you don’t like the template category you chose you can not switch later. ie: you can’t go from a Personal Website to an Ecommerce site or Business Website.

GoDaddy

If you have ever registered a domain name, then you are probably familiar with GoDaddy. It is one of the largest domain name and hosting service providers out there. GoDaddy also offers an easy-to-use website builder with a complete hosting package.

Pros

With Godaddy’s mobile friendly website builder you can update your website easily even when you are away from your computer. They have built in GDPR (cookies notification) that can be easily added to your site to comply with EU laws.

If you have multiple websites, you can share one media library between them so you don’t have to upload the same images multiple times.

There are various pre-made blocks that you can use to create your own layouts and built in promo banners, contact forms and calls to action. Simple but flexible layout tools help you create a beautiful website quickly.

Cons

GoDaddy’s Website Builder is not super flexible in terms of additional apps and plugins that can be added. The layouts also have limited flexibility and there are a limited number of themes available.

The lower cost plans don’t offer many “standard” features found in other website builders and have too many restrictions. You do not get a free domain name either so you will have to register your own and link it to your site. The only plan that has ecommerce features is the most expensive “Ecommerce” plan.

GoDaddy’s online support tool is not very good, we found the online chat to be unreliable. Though when we did get in touch with customer support, they were friendly and mostly helpful.

If you are looking for the perfect ecommerce website builder, then Shopify will probably be the right option for you. It has become one of the most popular website builders for creating online stores, and they also offer options for point-of-sale.

Currently, it is powering over 1,000,000 businesses worldwide. Shopify offers a lot more than other ecommerce website builders as it is built specifically for ecommerce.

Pros

Shopify has you covered whether doing online only sales, in person sales or both. Shopify has excellent features for building an online store with complete inventory management, useful stats, excellent marketing solutions, and unlimited products. You will also have access to hundreds of ready-made designs that require no coding experience to use.

It offers an intuitive drag-and-drop builder that will help you create pages fast and easy. Shopify also offers a “Shopify Lite” plan that allows you to integrate Shopify into any website or blog and accept payments.

Shopify offers an integrated payment solution known as Shopify Payments. However, you can still add third party payment gateways. They also offer shipping discounts, although the amount varies from plan to plan.

With Shopify, you don’t have to worry about site backups, security, and software updates as it is all handled for you. They also provide unlimited bandwidth with all of their plans.

Cons

Shopify can be a bit pricey for those just starting out. Their plans start from $29 per month and go up to $299 per month for the Advanced Shopify solution.

Shopify tacks on an additional fee, of up to 2.0%, for using other payment gateways (this is in addition to any fee the payment gateway charges). You also do not get a free domain name with any of the plans.

While they have a 14 day free trial, it is very difficult to know if you’ll want to commit to a service like this after only 14 days.

Every plan comes with a free domain name, SSL Security, SEO Features and unlimited bandwidth. This is a lot more standard features than most other website builders offer.

Their customer service is available 24/7 365 days a year.

Cons

Squarespace has limited integrations with third party apps and plugins, and adding custom functionality is limited. To get the most out of their ecommerce solution, you must purchase the “Advanced Commerce” plan.

Gator has multiple paid plans, all ad free, and you receive a free custom domain name, SSL cert and backups in all the plans. They also provide a library or free high-quality stock photos that you can use for free on your website.

Cons

If you are a web developer, then you may not like the limited customization available . While HostGators Gator website builder plans are very reasonable they do not offer a free version or free trial.

The normal HostGator hosting comes with free email marketing tools but unfortunately they leave it out of their Gator website builder plans.

Web.com

Web.com is another good solution for your personal or small business website. They offer a simple and easy to use website builder that will allow you to create your business site within minutes. They also provide easy to use marketing tools and a professional email address.

Pros

Web.com offers various web designs that you can use to create your own website. If you are looking to create a small business website, then you will be able to create it with ease.

Web.com offers a free domain with a free SSL certificate. Being a fully hosted solution, hosting is also included with all Web.com packages along with unlimited pages for your website.

All but the lowest tier plan can be used to create an online store. You have up to 50 payment processing options as well. They also provide expert website design services if you don’t want to build your own website.

Cons

They don’t have a feature-rich website builder and if you have complex requirements for your website, then Web.com may not be for you. You are limited to only adding up to 50 products to your ecommerce store with Web.com.

The plans are a bit pricier than other similar website builder plans and only the top tier plan comes with their built-in marketing tools.

ConstantContact

Constant Contact’s website builder allows you to create a professional, mobile responsive website with ease. A great choice for small business owners with limited tech skills.

Pros

Constant Contact’s website builder is a good value for all of the standard features you get. If you are looking to incorporate Constant Contact’s email marketing into your website they have plans to make that simple.

Using their A.I.-powered website builder you simply answer a few questions and they will create you a personalized website in minutes. You then have the ability to customize your website, and their built in design protections will ensure you don’t break it.

You can start building your website and ecommerce store for free and only pay once you are ready to take it live. They only provide one Website builder plan, taking some of the complication out of selecting the right plan. It comes with everything needed to run a professional website or ecommerce store.

If you don’t already have a logo, they also provide a logo builder you can use to create one. This, along with access to over 550,000 free professional quality images, will have your website looking good in no time.

Cons

Features may feel limited to some, specifically those who would like to get into code and extend the functionality of their site. You are limited in the number of add-ons that are available to use to customize your site.

The blogging tools are pretty basic, without the ability to change sort order or show only specific blog posts easily. SEO support is also lacking and you don’t get access to their Email marketing tools unless you upgrade to one of their email marketing plans which will at least double the monthly cost.

None of their plans come with free domain name registration and like most other website builders you will need a paid plan to link your site to your custom domain.
